Porta de Santiago ( A'Famosa)

  • Porta de Santiago is one of the four main entrances to the A'Famosa Fortress, which was constructed in 1511 by Afonso de Albuquerque, a Portuguese admiral. Although much of the fortress was severely damaged during the Dutch invasion in 1641, its iconic gateways have managed to withstand the test of time. Even today, the gates of the fortress stand as a testament to its historical significance.
  • The fortress was on the brink of demolition but was saved in the nick of time, thanks to Sir Stamford Raffles, who had a strong passion for history and historical preservation. This act helped preserve this important piece of Malacca's history for future generations to admire and appreciate.

Dutch Square

Melaka Straits Mosque

Baba & Nyonya Heritage Museum

  • The Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum offers a glimpse into the life of a wealthy Straits Chinese family, also known as the Peranakan people, who are descendants of the earliest Chinese immigrants to Melaka. This central home once belonged to three generations of the Baba Nyonya family.

Cheng Ho Cultural Museum

  • The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum is believed to be a reconstructed ancient building with Ming architecture, boasting a history spanning several hundred years. Named after the famous Ming Dynasty Admiral Cheng Ho, who visited Malacca many times during his voyages from 1405 to 1433, it is thought that he established a massive warehousing complex along the northern side of the Malacca River. To this day, there is a dispute over the exact location of the warehouse complex, with some believing it to be at Bukit Cina. Nevertheless, the museum showcases ample evidence of cultural exchange between the local ethnic groups and the Chinese, among other treasures, including ceramics, teahouses, and various navigation instruments.

Bukit Cina

  • Bukit Cina, also known as Sambok Hill, is of significant historical and cultural importance, situated in the heart of Melaka City, Melaka State. According to local legend, it is believed to have been a stopover for the renowned Chinese explorer Zheng He during his voyages in the Ming Dynasty era. As a result, the hill is fondly referred to as "San Po Shan" by the local Chinese residents.
  • The Po Shan Temple, located atop the hill, serves as a remarkable tribute to Zheng He's visit to Melaka. This temple showcases splendid examples of traditional Chinese architecture, featuring eye-catching red walls and glazed tiles. The roof is adorned with intricate depictions of colorful dragons playing with beads, adding an elegant touch to the overall structure.Within the temple, visitors can also find a statue of Zheng He, commemorating his historical significance and contributions. Bukit Cina and the Po Shan Temple are culturally rich sites that offer a glimpse into the historical connections between Melaka and China, making them essential stops for those interested in the region's history and heritage.
